The Ultimate Goal for 2018

At this time of year we are swamped with advice on New Year resolutions, diet, exercise, healthy living etc.
It’s the same in business, resolutions about customers, goal setting, service, teambuilding etc.
One of the quotes I like is “There are no secrets to success, it’s about preparation, hard work and learning from failure” Colin Powell.
If your business year is a calendar year and you are looking back on your marketing activity in 2017, what went well, what didn’t work, what activities, campaigns yielded the best results?
What was a good result, what were you trying to achieve - new customers, you enquiries, more sales, higher profits, what else?
Albert Einstein said “Insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
In their book Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies James Collins and Jerry Poras spoke about companies who had outperformed their competitors by a significant margin over a sustained period of time, one of the things he noticed about these companies is that they all had what he called BHAG’s, Big Hairy Audacious Goals, i.e. momentum shifters that drove the business forward.
Companies who set out to achieve BHAG’s were very careful in how many such goals they took on.
Most companies who set out to achieve one BHAG will do so, however companies who take on three are more at the same time, will not achieve any, we have finite resources, energies and time.
Where attention goes, energy flows.
